4 h 10 min − 1 h 45 min = 2 h 25 min. Borrowing one hour turns 10 minutes into 70 minutes.

Yes. They are normalized because these inputs are duration quantities.
What does a negative answer mean?
It means the second duration is larger than the first in subtraction mode.
